If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it’s that the world is a small planet of connected individuals. Not big corporations, bureaucracies and movers and shakers, but people, families and friends who are connected via relationships. Technology and online platforms have allowed people to connect, if not in body, at least in spirit.

A large portion of the population has been forced to work from home and embrace the challenges and conveniences that it brings but as the lockdown restrictions are progressively lifted people are able to reconnect physically with people and their workplaces.

In the main, transcriptionists are self-employed independent contractors. The contractors that use OutScribe's platform are overwhelmingly women, often caring for children or parents, or because of health challenges need the flexibility that working for themselves brings. There is a large percentage that are also supplementing aged or disability pensions.

For older people, and those who need to combine caring with an income, it is nigh-on impossible to find employment that is accepting and provides the flexibility. As a society it is concerning that a growing percentage of older women experience income insecurity and poverty.

Typing has traditionally been seen as a woman’s role and it’s this skill, combined with the internet and online platforms, that has enabled many older women to create a micro businesses for themselves.

Over the years it has been a source of pride that OutScribe has worked with many people who have been able to combine their caring roles with creating an income and regain financial dignity. I was one of those women and that’s why I know how empowering it is to be my own boss and provide for myself and family.

When you upload audio files to the OutScribe platform you not only receive a quality transcript, you are creating an income stream for someone who needs to work for themselves for a variety of reasons and therefore giving economic dignity.

We love that OutScribe can facilitate that transaction!
